Privacy Policy
Effective: September 11, 2026 · Last updated: September 11, 2026
This policy explains how WhattaEat Inc. (“WhattaEat,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use our iOS and Android applications, whattaeat.com, and related services (the “Services”).
Information we collect
Account and profile information. Name, username, email, birthdate, gender, dietary preferences, profile photo, settings, and the platforms used to register or access your account.
Content and social activity. Videos, photos, captions, comments, mentions, likes, saves, follows, blocks, reports, check-ins, location submissions, edit suggestions, and other information you provide.
Location information. With permission, device location is used for nearby places, distance, maps, directions, and check-in verification. We may store an approximate city, region, and country for product analytics. WhattaEat does not publicly share your live precise location.
Contacts. If you choose contact discovery, we process contact details you select or authorize to help find people you may know. Matching data may be normalized or transformed for comparison. We do not use contacts for unrelated advertising.
Permissions and technical data. With permission, the apps may access camera, microphone, photos, notifications, or contacts for the feature requested. We may also collect interactions, searches, video viewing behavior, referral attribution, taste-profile signals, device details, push tokens, diagnostics, crash data, security signals, IP address, cookies, and similar technologies.
Communications. Messages and attachments sent to support, feedback, claim, report, or business-contact channels.
How we use information
We use information to operate, secure, and improve the Services; create accounts; personalize feeds, recommendations, and taste comparisons; show nearby and socially relevant places; process uploads and check-ins; deliver notifications; attribute invitations and shares; moderate content; investigate abuse; provide aggregated or location-related analytics to location managers; communicate with you; and comply with law.
When information is shared
Information you make public—such as your profile, posts, comments, likes, follows, and public check-in activity—may be visible to other users and on public web pages. Privacy settings and blocks affect visibility, but copies previously shared by others may remain outside our control.
We use providers including Firebase and other Google services for authentication, databases, storage, analytics, maps, security, and messaging; Cloudflare for video delivery and storage; Vercel for website hosting; and Apple and Google for mobile distribution and platform services. These providers process data under their own terms and privacy commitments.
We may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the Services, during a corporate transaction, or at your direction. We do not sell personal information for money and do not currently use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Location and permission choices
You can deny or revoke permissions in device settings. Related features may then be unavailable. You can control eligible social-map and check-in visibility in WhattaEat privacy settings.
Retention and account deletion
We retain information as needed to provide the Services, protect safety and integrity, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention varies by information and purpose. Backups and fraud-prevention records may remain for a limited period after deletion.
Delete your account through Settings → Account & Security → Delete Account, or our account deletion page. We delete or de-identify associated data as applicable, subject to legal, security, backup, and transactional retention needs. Content involving others may remain in de-identified form where needed for conversations or safety records.
Your privacy rights
You may update your information and preferences, revoke permissions, and request access, correction, a copy, or deletion by contacting us. Depending on your location, you may also object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent, or appeal a decision. We may verify your identity first. California residents may exercise applicable access, correction, deletion, and disclosure rights without discrimination.
Security and international processing
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, but no online service guarantees absolute security. Information may be processed in the United States and other places where we or our providers operate, subject to applicable safeguards.
Age requirement
WhattaEat accounts are intended for adults age 18 or older. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account. Contact us if you believe an underage person provided personal information.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the Services or law changes. We will update the date above and provide additional notice when appropriate.
